METHODOLOGY

 Methodology

To develop this learning situation we have to take into account some pedagogical principles in order to choose the most adequate methodology: we will start from students´ previous ideas so they can connect new knowledge to the previously settled and form hierarchies and learning networks, guarantee the construction of meaningful learning because of its practical application to real life as well as its adequacy to the students' needs and interests, promote the student as the main character in their learning by developing skills which enable them to build up their own knowledge and help them to learn how to learn in an autonomous way, foster the students' creativity with activities encouraging reflection, research, decision-making, etc., facilitate and boost students' participation in class so they become active learning agents, create a climate of affection and confidence so students feel safe and motivated to unfold all their potential, and base the educational action on a communication and interaction process between teacher and student and among students. These principles are the axes of our educational action, and we will choose the methodology according to them.

We are going to develop this learning situation using project-based learning, which is a heuristic method in which students engage in problem solving to develop their knowledge or skills. It is a dynamic teaching approach in which students explore real world problems and challenges. With this type of active learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying. This process includes significant content, driving questions, students´ voice and choice, 21st century competencies, in-depth inquiry, revision and reflection, and public audience when students present their final work to their classmates and teacher. To get all of this we need to follow the 4 phases of the project:

1. Project selection.

2. Project preparation.

3. Project implementation.

4. Project evaluation.

This teaching method will allow us to develop science competences through project-based activities.

The project will be developed within 11,5 hours of class with their respective activities (science classes).

The aim will be for children to learn the importance of plants, their life cycle, their needs in order to grow and some of their day-to-day uses. Planting a seed will be the project for them to put into practice the acquired knowledge, as the children will get to register its growing process in their own blog. As the content unfolds, they will get to identify which changes are taking place in each stage, using the notes and explanations given in each session.
